Pipes Canyon · Pioneertown · Joshua Tree area
A 1957 desert house with a heated pool and spa carved into massive boulders, on five private acres.
The pool & spa
Three-story boulders rise straight out of the deck. The in-ground pool and spa sit tucked into them, so the granite is close enough to touch from the water.
Pool heating is usually not needed May through September. In cooler months it's $250/night with 24 hours' notice (not available January–February).
The land
Joshua Tree is 20 minutes away. You may not need to go. Swim Rock sits on five acres of monumental boulders, ancient Joshua trees and private trails, right next to the Pioneertown Mountains Preserve.
Built 1957 · Featured in Elle Decor
Swim Rock has the only original butterfly roof in the High Desert, with exposed beams and floor-to-ceiling windows full of boulders. The furniture is the real thing, collected piece by piece.
Put on a record, sink into the patinated 1970s De Sede leather, and set your drink on the brass Mastercraft table. Every room has original art and vintage California design.
Sleeping arrangements
Both bedrooms have a king bed and their own private patio. A fifth guest sleeps on an authentic Hans Wegner daybed in the private office. All beds are made with Parachute linens.

Your hosts
Marc and Isabel both grew up on the East Coast and met years later, online, in L.A. Marc bookmarked Isabel's profile and then forgot to message her, so Isabel messaged first. They'll tell you every good decision around here came from Isabel.
They restored Swim Rock themselves and stocked it with the things they love: vintage design, good coffee, records and a well-heated spa. Guests mention them by name in dozens of reviews for quick replies, local tips, and small surprises for birthdays and anniversaries. Tell them what you're celebrating and they'll arrange flowers or balloons.
The moral of their story: don't be Marc. If you're eyeing your dates, book them.
